Ever noticed how often Frida Kahlo is pictured with monkeys? Believe it or not they feature in just under 1/3 of her works. But why? What was Kahlo’s obsession with these little creatures?
The short answer is Kahlo was an animal lover and kept monkeys (among many other wild animals) as pets. More than that, she considered them to be her ‘children’ after being told she was infertile.
